The Ultimate Caution Flag

We capped off the party by heading out to Demolition Derby at the Union Fair (that's in Union). The kids like cars. The kids like smashing their own cars on our living room floor. So they should LOVE watching real cars smash, right? Well, as you can see from the third photo, such was not the case. Sal, Papa and I enjoyed ourselves, even if we were packed into an old, structurally unsound death-trap of a seating area, sweating like pigs, sucking in exhaust and savoring the smell of burning rubber and metal.

The best part of the whole evening, however, was seeing this year's Blueberry Queen (who is a volunteer EMT), standing by, tiara still on her head, with her firefighter gear on. Only in Maine.
