It's a Bird, It's a Plane....

Below are a few shots of Michael and Enzo pretending to be Captain Underpants… and his sidekick, Hershey Squirt. Okay, Captain Underpants doesn’t have a sidekick, and the name was probably uncalled for. But if you’re at all familiar with the books, you’d know that it fits right in with the theme.

Michael has recently gotten very interested in the
Captain Underpants series by Dav Pilkey, and we’ve read and reread the three installments we own: Captain Underpants and the Attack of the Talking Toilets, and Captain Underpants and the Big, Bad Battle of the Bionic Booger Boy, Parts One and Two. Michael has taken to tying his blanket around his neck and shouting ‘Tra-la-la-la!!!’ Enzo must do everything Michael does, so he’ll get his blanket and stand in front of you whining until you tie it around his neck as well. Then the two of them go whooshing around the house. It’s quite amusing.

I’m pretty sure that some of the words used in the books are not suitable for a classroom environment (or Nana & Papa’s house), but luckily, Michael is not going around repeating anything inappropriate (so far). The books are fun, he enjoys them, and they challenge his reading and comprehension skills. If that means that we have to deal with a few ‘poopies’ and ‘boogers’ thrown around here and there (the words, not the actual items), then so be it.
