Epcot
Going to Epcot is like hearing an 80’s song on the radio that you forgot existed, but instantly remember that you loved. I fully expected George Michael to jump out from behind an ice cream cart at any moment, wearing hot pink louvered sunglasses, a baggy cut-off sweatshirt, and HC Hammer pants, all the while shouting ‘Relax!’ The buildings and rides all had that ‘this is what the future looked like in 1985’ look to them. The kids enjoyed the park much more than AK, and Grammy came along, so Sal and I could sneak off to ride the non-kid friendly rides (which, for us, was most of them).
I was excited about getting to Epcot not for myself, but for Michael – because of the ‘Test Track’ ride, which was supposed to be this prototype car ride. Being a car fanatic, I figured he’d love it. The queue area was a series of exhibits of different parts of cars – the engine, the brake systems, etc., and Enzo kept stopping because he wanted to ‘fix the cars’, which was impossible because they were behind glass or ropes or whatever. When we did go on the ride, Enzo was so scared he kept his head down th entire time, and Michael’s official statement was that it was ‘too fast’ – this coming from a kid who wants to race cars when he grows up. When challenged on that point, he said that he wants to race slowly. So it looks like we have a future pace car driver on our hands.
Funny enough, the only relevant photo we have of this park is the one below, which was taken in the after-ride area of Test Track, where there were several cars on display for people to climb in and out of (which Michael and Enzo did quite a bit of). So you had to listen to all that talking for one darn photo.
