Breakwater

Now that Michael is old enough to walk the entire distance (about a mile each way), we’ve been walking the breakwater in Rockland all the way to the lighthouse. They’re in the process of fixing it up, and there are amazing views from the lighthouse tower. It’s a bit far for Enzo, and he oscillates between walking and needing to be picked up. He also seems to conveniently fall asleep just as start our trek back. It’s like walking a mile with a small hot dinner roll wrapped in tin foil against your chest, all the while trying not to die by stepping into one of the sometimes large cracks between the large pieces of granite.

Sal, being the nervous mother that she is, demands that Michael hold hands with someone at all times, stay EXACTLY in the center of the breakwater, and move at a pace of no faster than 1 miler per hour. He must pay attention to where he is walking at all times, and there is no talking, singing, mumbling, spitting, or any other activity that might distract him from stepping on the stones, and avoiding a horrible death from falling into the 12-inch deep crevices, and possibly being eaten by ravenous sea stars.

Be careful, I once lost a classmate to an alleged Sea Star attack at the beach when I was kid!
